After a gentle winter, the end of March signals the start of the vines growth for the new season.
Therfore for me its the start of a busy time in the vinyards.
During May we were almost 1 month in advance of the same period in a normal year.
The forecasters announce the grape harvest for about August 23-28 (95 to 100 days after the flowering)
The end of spring and the beginning of a cool summer did little to slow down this advance.
During the summer, the many heavy hail storms decreased the quantitative potential of the harvest.
The many storms created a potential for mildew on the vine: therefore it was necessary to remain very vigilant. The wet ground caused many unwanted shoots on the vines and therefore prunings (the green parts of the vine) were very frequent and long, especially when they had to be carried out manually on our sloping vinyards.
We did not have rot due to our light and stony grounds: a good stoke of luck!!!! Noting an improvement in the weather, we made the choice (and the bet) to delay the grape harvest in order to obtain a maximum maturity.
We began our manual grape harvest on September 7th to finish on September 19th. We did not have one day of rain. So finally 109 days after the flowering the grape harvest began: hardwork for all!!!!
The fermentation proceeded well. but had to be supervised very carefully. It was also necessary to be very rigorous on rackings at the end of the fermentation.
Our wines will be filtered during week 42 and bottled during week 43.
We are very proud of our wines and we now have the new beaujolais wines which are fruity and scented scented and different from the years 2005 and 2006.
The beaujolais tradional wines will be well structured.
The white and rosy beaujolais wines will also be very fine.
